Railroad and model railroad videos that try to show something unique with good quality production. Check my playlists for some of the major themes - passenger trains going fast; trains in severe weather, interesting freight railroad operations, model railroad scenes that try to recreate poorly maintained track, and more. Many videos are from the Chicago area. There is much more to come, partly from a 10 year archive of videos that I'm in the process of posting, partly from brand new content.
CN L536 with a SD40-2W meets CN M337 after Amtrak uses 39th St. Crossover
The CN Chicago Sub doesn't have much traffic north of 95th St., so a three-train meet is uncommon. 39th St. interlocking isn't often used to crossover, and it's only 10mph. But in this case, it was the only option - M337 held short of it heading north on Main 2, and L536 pulled through 21st. St. and 16th St. diamonds while a window was open instead of holding for Amtrak's Saluki, Train 390. That forces 390 to crossover from Main 1 to Main 2 ahead of M337, as L536 is stopped on Main 1 north of the signal.
With the crossover reset, M337 then gets a flashing red restricting signal, and begins to move. Out of the fog then comes L536 heading south, with a highly unusual SD40-2W leader, and both trains accelerate past the camera. Lastly, at the very end, a Metra Electric inbound train passes through.

Even with just four cars, this GP16 has to work hard on the steep grade out of Santa Fe. In the first clip, it's higher-speed (relatively) NMRX track. The second scene is on the rickety tourist-only track, where the same train tiptoes across a neat wooden trestle at sunset.

First up is a very unusual move on the CN Chicago Sub: A CN PTC test train went north on Main 2 to Kelly, where the line becomes single track. Unplanned stop to see what Metra had tonight on the outbound Metra rush for the MILW lines. This video shows the most interesting catches - two outbounds with a SD70MACH running solo, and two other outbounds with a pair of F59PHI's. On the second SD70MACH clip, you can see the wheels really spin right over the crossing as it throttles up.

Is that a legit section of 90mph track in NM? I'm amazed BNSF would willingly install the PTC and trackside equipment to operate the cab signaling for that. Of course that track is so straight that they could probably run it at 125mph with a few upgrades to signaling
Yes, it’s legitimate. PTC can be used for this speed with no additional cab signals. PTC is mandated on that stretch regardless of speed.
